ariette Labonté is an Education Consultant who specializes in helping students to identity and overcome their learning disabilities. She operates with a "child first" philosophy and a goal of maximizing the ability of students to achieve their education objectives.

Mariette delivers a solutions focused service that is readily available in both English and French languages, in a manner that is accommodating and comforting to clients. Specifically, the service encompasses the following:
  • Comprehensive Learning Assessments to identify impediments to learning. Assessments may encompass testing of cognitive ability, learning style, learning strategies and tests of achievement - math assessment, reading assessment, broad knowledge assessment.
  • Learning Strategies Development, for implementation in-home and in-classroom, to provide direction to parents and teachers on how to best approach learning in order to promote the best interests of the student.

Mariette possesses over 25 years of experience working with children experiencing learning challenges. She has a proven track record of working closely with parents, Board personnel and other professionals to identify a broad range of learning disabilities directly impacting academic and social performance.

While many children successfully progress through the education system with a fair opportunity to achieve their learning and life objectives, approximately one in ten Canadian students suffer from a specific learning disability, with almost half of these students having ADHD. There are numerous areas that may negatively impact a student's ability to learn, including Behavioural, Depression, Language Disorder, Learning Difficulty and Learning Style. Students that face these challenges benefit from additional support, which entails clearly identifying the learning disability and developing learning strategies to ensure their educational needs are addressed. Mariette strives to provide support in this area.

Please note that comprehensive learning assessments may uncover a disability that is caused by the presence of a medical condition. In these cases, Mariette will recognize the traits that are associated with the condition and provide recommendations for increased learning success. She will not make a diagnosis of the condition, and when appropriate, will refer the client to a medical professional.
